Three killed in fresh attack on Benue village
Three people were killed in a fresh attack on Ukemberagya community of Gaambe-Tiev district, on Thursday, in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The latest killings was sequel to a few days of relative calm in troubled areas of the state and had happened barely 24 hours after the visit Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to the IDPs camps located in Logo areas.
A traditional leader in the area, Chief Joseph Anawah, said gunmen at about 6:30am on Thursday launched an attack on the rural community and killed some people while leaving others badly injured.
Anawah said three dead bodies of Bem Torjem, Apedzan Chia and Akpuku Koya have been recovered so far while others were still missing.
He mentioned the affected settlements to include; Tse-Mue, Torkaa, Mgbakpa, Torjem and Ifer, adding that the invaders swooped on their prey at a time when the farmers were on their way to the farms.
Similarly, Chairman of Logo council, Richard Nyajo, told newsmen that he had reported the matter to the police and other appropriate authority for necessary action even as he expressed worry that inhabitants have deserted the surroundings.
Meanwhile, the police at the time of this report was yet to confirm the development as key officers of the Benue Command were in a security meeting at the Government House in Makurdi.
Spokesman of the command, ASP Moses Yamu, responded in a text message to our correspondent that he could not speak at the moment until later.
