Two robbers to die by hanging in Ekiti

A court in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, has sentenced two persons Lanre Kayode, 34, and Olanrewaju Aremu, 35, to death by hanging for conspiracy and burglary, The Nation reports.

Justice Lucas Ogundana said the court found both men guilty of armed robbery.

The convicts were said to have committed the crimes in 2017 in Oke Ila area of Ado Ekiti when they were armed with guns and cutlasses, robbing one Jimoh Folajoke Oluremi of her laptops, phones and Toyota Camry car.

A mob yesterday morning lynched two suspected armed robbers at Refinery Junction, Effurun in Uvwie council area of Delta State.

According to The Nation, the suspects had earlier robbed a restaurant and a Point of Sale (POS) shop at a plaza along Refinery Road.

But another source claimed the suspects also shot a teacher, robbing her of a huge sum of money and other valuables.

The teacher is said to be receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in the area.

The hoodlums reportedly operated in a tricycle, popularly known as Keke Napep, and were heading  toward Refinery Junction when the mob got hold of them.

The rider of the tricycle reportedly escaped.

Police spokesperson, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the incident, noting that the deceased suspects were armed.

“A mob burnt two people to death. They said one escaped,” Onovwakpoyeya said.
