An aspirant for the office of the President of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), Wale Adediran has explained why he is offering himself to lead the prestigious and foremost HR professional body in Nigeria.

Adediran who spoke exclusively in an interview with newsclickng.com said he is driven by uncommon passion to reposition the institute.

He noted that as the incumbent Vice President and the Human Resource (HR) Director of Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc., he has the necessary skill, experience and leadership strategy to direct the affairs of CIPM and take the institute to enviable heights, if given the mandate.

Why I want to be CIPM President - Wale AdediranIn his words: “I am Wale Adediran, currently HR Director of FMN Group (Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc. and subsidiaries) with over 12,000 workers across about twenty business units across Nigeria. This makes the sixteenth year that I have been serving in executive capacity as a Head of HR. I have served as HR lead for Procter & Gamble, Frigoglass Plc, Guinness-Diageo Nigeria and now Flour Mills. Also, I am the serving Vice President of our great Institute, the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM).

Highlighting his leadership roles within the institute and other professional bodies, Adediran said: “I have served the Institute in the last one decade in various capacities: as Chairman of the Strategic Planning and Implementation Committee (SPIC), Chairman of the Annual National Conference Planning Committee (ANCPC) and Vice Chairman of ANCPC twice. I have also served as a member of other committees of Council. I lead HR Practitioners in the Association of Food, Beverage and Tobacco Employers (AFBTE) as the Chairman, National Joint Industrial Council and Chairman, Committee of Personnel Experts. My decision to step out to serve as President at this time was not taken lightly.

Asked why he is running for the office now, he responded thus: “Only the interest of continued progress of our institute informed my decision to run. Note that it takes me nothing to wait one more year and ascend the Presidency. However, the current trend of leadership style, which had alienated the Council from Leadership, as well as the total disregard of a section of leadership for the governance structure of the institute and the strategic plan we painstakingly put together as a Council, portends a high risk I cannot ignore,” he said enthusiastically.

Speaking on his record of service and achievement within the institute, Adediran said: “My record of service in our institute is there for all to see. Key among our contributions as a team:
1. Transformation of our Annual National Conference from what it used to be to what it is now
2. Development of our three-year strategic plan that we are executing today and
3. The Annual HR Best Practice Program – with a first of its kind staging of the HR Best Practice Award Night at the Oriental Hotels. The ringing of the closing bell at the Nigerian Stock Exchange was a recognition of the impact of the Annual HR Best Practice program.

“The CIPM you see today is a product of seamless execution of cycles of 3-year strategic plans, led by fantastic leaders. They inspired transformational accomplishments like: Our prestigious millennium building; the world class annual national conferences; improved visibility in the public sector – starting with Lagos and Ekiti states; the HR practice benchmark driven by widely accepted HR Best Practice Awards Process, which had run for 6 years and led to the ringing of closing bell at the Nigerian Stock Exchange in 2017.”

“The outstanding HR Best Practice Awards Night of 14th Dec. 2017 of the above listed landmarks, I led the team that delivered the current 3-year strategic plan we are implementing, as well as the initiation and execution of HR Best Practice Awards and the Awards Night”, Mr. Adediran offered.
