The World Bank has expressed readiness to partner with the Kwara Government to improve technical and vocational education in the state.
Dr Tunde Adekola, World Bank Senior Education Specialist, said this on Tuesday when he led other officials of the bank, on a facility tour of the International Vocational, Technical and Entrepreneurship College (IVTEC), Ajase-Ipo.
Adekola said the team was at IVTEC to explore available opportunities for partnership with the state government in skill development and technical and vocational training.
The senior education specialist expressed satisfaction with the facilities at the college and added that the curriculum was in line with the agenda of the World Bank.
He described the establishment of the college by the Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed-led administration as a step in a right direction.
Adekola added that the global financial institution was prepared to support Kwara government in its technical and vocational education reforms to increase access, improve quality and learning outcomes.
The state Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Alhaja Bilikis Oniyangi, said government was working on the Public Private Partnership with the World Bank as a prelude to the collaboration.
Oniyangi said that the state government would fast-track processes on all necessary requirements to facilitate the quick participation of the bank in the state’s vocational and skill acquisition drive.
She said that the Kwara government anticipated full commitment from the World Bank in the shortest possible time.
The acting Rector of the College, Dr Ade Somide, and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Mariam Garba, led the World Bank representatives round the facilities.
