President Muhammadu Buhari has designated Bola Tinubu to lead the consultation, reconciliation and confidence building efforts, in the All Progressive Congress ( APC).
The decision is coming on the heels of current widespread disaffection in APC, and as part of on-going efforts to improve cohesion within the All Progressives Congress (APC)
A statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, said President Muhammadu Buhari designated Tinubu to embark on bridge building amongst party members
The assignment, according to the statement “will involve resolving disagreements among party members, party leadership and political office holders in some states of the Federation”
Some of the founding members of the party and major financiers of the 2015 Presidential election, Including those who had worked to ensure the electoral fortunes of President Muhammadu Buhari had protested that they had been abandoned by the party.
There are also fears that some members of the National Assembly had concluded plans to dump the party.
A Chieftain of the party and former Acting Governor of Adamawa State, James Barka, described the action as positive development but expressed fears that the action may have come late.
” It is a good decision by the President, it has been long awaited and it will help to boost the party’s fortune, but let us hope it is not late”
