Nigeria vs Argentina: No mercy for Messi – Rohr

Super Eagles Manager, Gernot Rohr, has said that there will be no mercy for the skillful Argentine international, Lionel Messi, when Nigeria confront the South Americans on Tuesday (today)in a crucial group D encounter in St Petersburg.

Rohr said he loved Messi’s style of play just like many other Nigerians including the players but in this match, professionalism would prevail Nigeria with three points from two games following the 2-0 win over Iceland are on track for the second round if they could avoid a defeat while Argentina will need an outright win to stand a chance after recording only one point also from two games.

The German said: “We will show him no mercy because if he is allowed to have space in the vital area, he will create problem for us. We have to deal with that the best way possible. “Nigerians will see the same hardfighting Super Eagles and this time we want to begin the match well and show good character till the end.”

On the in-form Ahmed Musa, Rohr said his exploits against Iceland was a result of hard work. “Musa did not score with free kicks but good fast attacking pace and technique.

He was not playing at Leicester and he went back to Moscow to start training in the snow to get his form b a c k and I a m happy he is back at his best. “The youthful defence is a source of worry as they concede needless penalties but we have spoken to them to always be calm in difficult situations. All the players are ready and we are optimistic of a good outing against Argentina,” Rohr added.
