The federal government has approved the appointment of new chief medical directors, CMDs for 11 of the country’s facilities.
Patricia Deworitshe, a director at the federal ministry of health, announced in a statement on Thursday that the CMDs will serve for a four-year term beginning August 1.
Nyandanti Yakub Wilberforce of the Federal Medical Centre in Hong, Adamawa state; Issa Baba Awoye of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Buddo-Egba, Kwara state; Umar Faruk Abdumajid of the Federal Medical Centre in Daura, Katsina state; Muhammad Shittu Adamu of the Federal Medical Centre in Wase, Plateau; Shuaibu Jauro Yahya of the Federal.
Others are Mangwa J. Kortar, Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi, Benue state; Robinson Chukwudi Onoh, Alex Ekwueme, Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakiliki, Ebonyi state; and Nurudeen Isa, National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala, Kano state.
Presenting them with the appointment letters, Kachollom Daju, the ministry’s permanent secretary, congratulated the appointees and charged them to work together with the health workers and stakeholders as a team.
Daju also urged the new CMDs to explore all necessary avenues to provide a conducive work environment and infrastructure aimed at achieving a high standard of health care.
“It may be challenging but there is no challenge that is unsurmountable and your appointment is an indication of the confidence that the federal government reposed in you,” she said.
Daju assured that the ministry will provide necessary support within the available resources to enable them to meet the hospital standard adding.
