The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has stated that no confirmed case of Ebola has been recorded in the country.
The clarification comes after recent concerns about the disease following outbreaks reported in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Earlier, Jide Idris, director-general of the NCDC, disclosed that Nigeria is 59 per cent prepared to respond to a potential Ebola outbreak.
The agency had also announced measures to strengthen disease surveillance, citing the risk posed by ongoing transmission in the DRC and Uganda, as well as increased cross-border movement and international travel.
In a statement shared on its X account on Saturday, the NCDC refuted reports suggesting that Ebola had been detected in Nigeria.
“We wish to clarify that there are currently no confirmed cases of Ebola in Nigeria. Any report stating otherwise is false,” the agency said.
“NCDC remains vigilant and continues to strengthen surveillance, preparedness, and response measures nationwide.”
The agency advised Nigerians to rely on its official communication channels and social media platforms for accurate and verified information regarding Ebola and other public health concerns.
