Residents of Sokoto State have been cautioned to stay vigilant due to an increase in suspected cases of meningitis in some local government areas.
Nura Maikwanci, the Ministry of Health’s Information/Public Relations Officer, made this announcement on Tuesday on behalf of Faruk Wurno, the Commissioner for Health.
Maikwanci affirmed that multiple cases of the illness have been found through laboratory testing.
The statement said,
“To curb its spread, the Ministry has intensified surveillance, case management, and public health interventions.
“We called on residents to take preventive measures, including seeking immediate medical attention if they experience symptoms such as fever, severe headache, or neck stiffness.”
It also emphasised the importance of personal and environmental hygiene, avoiding overcrowded places and ensuring proper ventilation in homes and public spaces.
The commissioner urged residents to report any suspected cases to the nearest health facility and assured the public that the state governor, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto has provided essential medications to health centres across the state.
