[Foodies Corner] Foodstuff Prices in Nigeria today

264

Food, in general, has been seen as a basic need but in Nigeria, it looks more like a luxury. Food prices in Nigeria frequently rise without being reduced or controlled owing to inflation.

Despite its bountiful soil, human resources, and favourable environment, Nigeria has approximately 23 million people living in poverty. The number grows by the day.

Feeding in Nigeria is difficult; according to the National Bureau of Statistics, the average Nigerian earns less than $1 per day. The remuneration structure of the federal and state governments demonstrates this, with the minimum wage of 30,000 Naira per month.

After deducting basic expenses like food and commuting to work, the figure is dismal. The remainder is barely useful for anything tangible.

As you continue on, you’ll learn about food prices and why they rise and fall.
