As the harmattan season arrives, it brings with it dry, dusty winds that can make it challenging to keep our homes clean and comfortable. Dust settles quickly on surfaces, the air feels drier, and it’s easy for indoor spaces to feel stuffy.
However, with these few simple steps, you can keep your home fresh, cozy, free of dust and comfortable throughout this season
- Seal Up Windows and Doors
Dust finds its way in through tiny gaps in windows and doors. Check for spaces around your windows and doors and seal them up, if possible. You can use curtains as well—they’ll help catch some of the dust before it enters your home.
- Dust and Sweep Regularly
Dusting often is essential. Harmattan dust settles on furniture, floors, and electronics, so use a damp cloth to wipe down surfaces every day or every other day. Sweeping and mopping will also help keep the floors clean and reduce allergens.
- Use an Air Purifier
If you can, get an air purifier to help keep the air clean. Harmattan dust makes the air quality drop, and an air purifier can remove some of those particles, making it easier to breathe indoors.
- Keep Indoor Humidity Up
Harmattan brings dry air, which can feel uncomfortable. Use a humidifier to add moisture to the air. If you don’t have one, a bowl of water in each room or drying clothes indoors can also help.
- Protect Electronics
Dust can damage electronics, so try to keep them covered when not in use. You can use a cloth or plastic cover to keep out as much dust as possible. Be sure to clean them gently with a soft cloth to avoid buildup.
With a few small steps, you will enjoy a cleaner, more comfortable home even during harmattan
