In the aftermath of the demise of Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, another member of the royal palace, has garnered the attention of Nigerians in the online community. Morenikeji Lasisi aka Baba Keji is the eldest palace aide who has witnessed the reigns of three different Alaafins of Oyo.
Baba Keji is reportedly aged 120 and still holds a position as the head of the palace aides.
In a video that has been circulating online, Baba Keji is seen answering questions from a visitor to the palace.
He introduced himself in Yoruba and stated that he had witnessed the reigns of three different Oyo kingdom monarchs.
My name is Morenikeji Lasisi, the Palace aide said in Yoruba.
When questioned about his age, the elderly gentleman claimed he couldn’t recall but confirmed he was over 100. Baba Keji also stated that he has children and a wife, all of whom are still alive and well.
He has witnessed the reigns of three Alaafin’s. He has been a palace aide for the following:
Oba Adeniran Alabi Adeyemi II (1945-1955)
Oba Bello Gbadegesin Oladigbolu II (1956-1968)
Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III (1971-2022)
The centenarian is likely to witness the installation of another Alaafin which will make it the fourth monarch he gets to serve.
