“We keep choosing each other,” How a mutual friend ‘matchmade’ The Adesumbos for lifetime love journey

Match making mature, serious-minded singles who are ready for the next level is really a sweet experience. The match maker’s sole responsibility is simply to provide a meeting avenue or exchange contacts while the lovers take it up from there.

No unnecessary back-and-forth or persuading either of the parties for a journey they are old enough to embark on. The matchmaker simply sits back and watch in amazement how strangers he helped introduced mark all the growth indices in a short while. Friendship, relationship, courtship, marriage. Such a smooth transition.

In appreciation of being their meeting facilitator, the excited couple upon crossing to the point of saying ‘I do’ extend a wedding invitation to the matchmaker, who proudly and graciously accepts.

This is how true lovers who initially existed miles apart and only needed a meeting platform grow. And such was the experience of my spotlighted couple this week, Mr and Mrs Adesumbo.

Met through a mutual friend at a family celebration and boom! No looking back. It’s been eight years of falling and falling again in love with each other. You could just see from their body languages that these ones and divinely made for each other.

1. How did you both meet, and what was your first impression of each other?

Mr Adesumbo: We met through a mutual friend during a family celebration. What caught my attention about my wife was her calm nature, warmth and the way she carried herself. She was someone I wanted to know better.

Mrs Adesumbo: When I first met my husband, I noticed his confidence and kindness. He was respectful and easy to talk to, and I admired the way he treated people around him.

2. When did you realise you wanted to spend the rest of your life together?

Mr Adesumbo: I realised it when I saw that she was not just someone I loved, but someone I could build a future with. She brought peace into my life and supported me in ways that meant so much.

Mrs Adesumbo: For me, it was his consistency. His words matched his actions, and I saw that he was someone who truly valued commitment, family and partnership.

3. What was the journey from dating to marriage like for both of you?

Mr Adesumbo: It was a beautiful journey filled with learning, understanding and growth. We had to learn each other’s personalities and expectations, but every experience brought us closer.

Mrs Adesumbo: The journey taught us that marriage starts long before the wedding day. We spent time understanding each other, our families and the responsibilities that come with building a home together.

4. What has been the biggest lesson marriage has taught you?

Mr Adesumbo: Marriage has taught me that love requires commitment, patience and sacrifice. It is about showing up for your partner every day and choosing your family even during challenging moments.

Mrs Adesumbo: I have learnt that communication and understanding are important in marriage. Two people may be different, but with love and respect, they can grow beautifully together.

5. What do you appreciate most about your spouse after eight years of marriage?

Mr Adesumbo: I appreciate my wife’s heart. She is caring, supportive and intentional about making our home a happy place. Having her as my partner has been a blessing.

Mrs Adesumbo: I appreciate my husband’s commitment and strength. He takes his responsibilities seriously and always reminds me that we are a team.

6. How do you both keep love alive after eight years together?

Mr Adesumbo: We remain intentional about spending time together, communicating and appreciating the little things. Love continues to grow when both people make the effort.

Mrs Adesumbo: We keep choosing each other. Through simple gestures, laughter, conversations and support, we continue to nurture the bond we share.

7. What advice would you give young couples hoping to build a lasting marriage?

Mr Adesumbo: Marriage is a journey, not a competition. Couples should be patient with each other, communicate openly and remember that challenges can be overcome when they face them together.

Mrs Adesumbo: Build friendship before anything else. Learn to understand your partner, respect each other and avoid comparing your marriage to others.

8. Looking back at eight years together, what moment will you always cherish?

Mr Adesumbo: I cherish every season we have shared together. Looking back at where we started and seeing how much we have grown reminds me of God’s faithfulness.

Mrs Adesumbo: I cherish the memories we have created…the joyful moments, the challenges we overcame and the love that has continued to grow through the years.

9. What does forever mean to both of you?

Mr Adesumbo: Forever means continuing to choose my wife through every season of life, supporting each other and building a home filled with love and understanding.

Mrs Adesumbo: Forever means growing together with my best friend, creating beautiful memories and standing by each other through every chapter of life.

10. Sum up your marriage journey in one sentence.

Mr Adesumbo: Eight years of love, growth and God’s grace, with many more beautiful memories ahead.

Mrs Adesumbo: A journey of two people choosing love, friendship and commitment every single day.
