At least 10 passengers have sustained injuries in a multiple-vehicle accident on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, while emergency responders averted a possible train collision at Ilupeju Bypass after a commercial bus broke down on a railway track.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said the bridge accident occurred on Wednesday morning when a commercial bus stopped to fix a faulty tyre and was subsequently hit by another bus.

A trailer later rammed into the second bus before the driver fled the scene.

According to the agency, emergency responders provided first aid to the injured passengers before evacuating them to a hospital for medical attention.

The affected section of the bridge was subsequently cleared and reopened to motorists.

In a separate incident at Ilupeju Bypass, emergency responders used a light tow truck to remove a broken-down commercial bus from a railway track, preventing a potential collision with an approaching train.

LASEMA said its emergency response team was deployed to the scene to manage the situation.

The agency cautioned motorists against carrying out roadside repairs on highways and bridges, urging them to maintain their vehicles regularly to reduce the risk of accidents.

It also advised residents in need of emergency assistance to contact its emergency lines on 767 or 112.
