10 kidnapped maritime travellers regain freedom

Ten maritime travelers who were abducted earlier this week along the Bonny–Port Harcourt waterway have regained their freedom.

The victims were kidnapped on Monday, September 2, with police authorities pledging to investigate the incident and rescue them.

A source confirmed their release to Channels Television on Saturday, stating that the abductors abandoned the 10 travelers when they realized Nigerian Navy operatives from the Forward Operations Base (FOB) in Bonny were actively searching for them.

An insider at FOB Bonny, who requested anonymity, said the base had been tracking the kidnappers since the abduction was reported.

Their efforts, supported by intelligence operations, forced the captors to flee, leaving the victims behind along the Onne channel.

After being rescued, the travelers were taken to the base for medical evaluations before being reunited with their families.

While no official statements have been released by the Navy or Police, both agencies have reiterated their commitment to intensifying operations against sea piracy in the area.
