A tragic road accident on the Owo/Ikare-Akoko Highway in Ondo State claimed the lives of 13 commuters on Saturday morning.
The crash occurred at Abule Paanu, near the Ose bridge, when a bus travelling from Ikare suffered a tyre burst, lost control, and collided head-on with another bus carrying fabrics from Owo. Both vehicles immediately caught fire.
Eyewitnesses reported that 14 individuals were involved, with 13 burnt beyond recognition and one person rescued with serious injuries.
Samuel Ibitoye, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ondo State, confirmed the incident, noting that emergency responders, including FRSC officers, police, and the Fire Service, rushed to the scene.
The injured victim was taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Owo for treatment, while the remains of the deceased have been deposited in the hospital’s mortuary.
