One thousand five hundred staff at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC) stormed the hospital on Thursday in protest against their sack by the management of the hospital.

On Wednesday, the employees were instructed not to report to work, causing discontent among the workers who expressed their frustration at being terminated after months of working without receiving their salaries.

The teaching hospital’s management hired these workers in 2022, but the Federal Government alleged that both the management and some employees were engaged in job racketeering, leading to their dismissal.

In response to their termination, the affected workers gathered at the hospital’s main gate on Thursday, chanting solidarity songs to convey their grievances and urging the management to reconsider its decision.

The main gate was locked, denying entry to workers, and the protest disrupted services.

As of now, there has been no official response from the hospital’s management. Attempts to reach the spokesperson for comment were unsuccessful, as she did not respond to numerous phone calls.
