The election petitions tribunal in Isabo, the capital of Ogun State, Abeokuta, has received petitions from 16 candidates for the House of Assembly running under the Peoples Democratic Party.
At the state’s March 18 governorship and House of Assembly elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission proclaimed the APC candidates the winners.
On Monday, it was learnt that the petitioners claimed, among other things, that the Election Act had not been followed.
Voting units were allegedly disrupted, there was violence, ballot boxes were allegedly stolen, and other violations were committed during the elections, according to the petitioners.
They prayed the tribunal to order their return, claiming that they polled the majority votes.
The aggrieved politicians were candidates of the PDP for Abeokuta North, Abeokuta South II, Ado-Ota I & II, Ewekoro, Ifo II, Imeko-Afon, Ijebu-Ode, Ijebu-North II, Sagamu II, Obafemi-Owode, Odeda, Ipokia, Yewa-North I & II and Yewa-South.
Represented by their counsel, Dr Hassan Balogun, the petitioners joined the Independent National Electoral Commission, the All Progressives Congress and the respective elected APC candidates as respondents.
