19 political parties to participate in Ondo gov poll – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 19 political parties will contest in the upcoming governorship election scheduled for November 16 in Ondo State.

Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ondo State, announced that 19 political parties are slated to participate in the governorship election scheduled for November 16, 2024.

Addressing representatives of political parties during a meeting in Akure on Friday, Babalola acknowledged that these parties have expressed their intention to field candidates for the election. She confirmed that the parties have officially informed the Commission about their plans to conduct primaries for the governorship election.

The political parties enlisted for participation include the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Accord Party, Action Alliance, African Action Congress, African Democratic Congress (ADC), African Democratic Party (ADP), and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). Additionally, the lineup comprises the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Action Peoples Party, Boot Party, Labour Party (LP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), National Rescue Movement, Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Youth Party, Young Progressives Party (YPP), and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

The INEC REC urged all parties to strictly adhere to the guidelines, rules, and regulations outlined in their constitutions during the conduct of their primaries the following month. She further advised them to ensure that their primary elections are conducted peacefully, orderly, and transparently to uphold the credibility of the outcomes.
