A 20-year-old candidate who chose the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State as his preferred institute of learning may have to wait another year to pursue his medical ambition despite fulfilling all admission requirements.

The candidate, Adebisi Abdulsamad wrote the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in 2020 and scored 311. He put in for the institution’s pre-degree programme scoring an aggregate of 80.7% at the end of the programme.

However, when the cut-off mark for Medicine and Surgery was officially released, it was pegged at 80.3%. Newsclickng.com observed that Abdulsamad did not only meet the cut-off mark but surpassed it by 0.4%.

His teacher who confided anonymously in Newsclickng.com said the university has started admitting students for a fresh academic session but Abdulsamad’s name was consistently missing on the list of admitted students. He said so far, they have not been given concrete reasons the young, enthusiastic candidate should not be admitted when they formally lodged a complain.

Newsclickng.com sighted the candidate’s documents and found the claims to be true.

Meanwhile efforts by this medium to reach the university management for comments was unsuccessful as at the time of filing this report.
