The election of Dauda Lawan-Dare as the Zamfara state’s Peoples Democratic Party’s nominee for Governor has once more been overturned by a Federal High Court sitting in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, and the party has been barred from presenting a candidate for the state Governorship election in 2023.
The PDP will not field any candidates for the state’s 2023 Governorship election, according to the ruling given on Tuesday by the presiding judge, Justice Aminu Bappa.
The PDP Governorship primary in Zamfara was invalidated by the court for the second time in two months.
After Ibrahim Shehu and two other candidates sued the court, questioning the validity of the primary, the court invalidated Lawal-election Dare’s in September of this year.
Lawal-Dare was again declared the winner after the poll was rerun, but Ibrahim Shehu, his opponent, went back to court to contest the results.
Therefore, Justice Bappa ruled that Dare’s re-election was also marred by a number of irregularities and as a result, it was invalidated. The PDP was also disqualified from running in the governorship election in 2023.
