The Borno State Police Command has trained 518 constables to increase the protection already in place throughout the state in order to guarantee a smooth and credible election in 2023.
The constables would be dispatched to their respective local government areas for the exercise, state Commissioner of Police Abdu Umar informed newsmen in Maiduguri on Friday.
He said that Usman Baba, the Inspector General of Police, had authorized their deployment.
The CP claimed that the constables had received adequate training on election security dos and don’ts, general job conduct, and the necessity to avoid all types of corruption throughout the election process.
Umar claimed that the requirement for more security personnel to supplement the constables’ deployment for election duties was critical.
He promised that all of the state’s security organizations would work together and put in a coordinated effort to make sure that the state’s elections in 2023 went off without a hitch.
