The Supreme Court has dismissed a lawsuit filed against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in an attempt to impose the zoning and rotatory policy in the 2023 presidential election.
On Friday, Justice Adamu Jauro delivered a unanimous decision dismissing the suit due to a lack of jurisdiction to hear it.
Cosmos Ndukwe, a PDP presidential aspirant and former Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, filed the suit against his party, asking the court to compel it to uphold the party’s zoning and rotatory policy.
Specifically, the presidential aspirant sought for an order of the court to compel PDP to zone the nomination of its presidential candidate to the south-east geo-political zone of the country.
However, Justice Jauro dismissed the suit on the ground that the nomination of candidates for election was an internal affair of political parties.
