2027: I’m not vying for election – Ortom

Former Benue State governor, Chief Samuel Ortom, has stated that he will not be contesting for any elective position in the 2027 general elections.

This was made known on Saturday in a statement issued in Makurdi and signed by his media adviser, Dr. Terver Akase.

According to reports by the News Agency of Nigeria, speculation had circulated on social media suggesting that Ortom planned to run for the Benue North-West Senatorial seat in 2027.

Dismissing the claims, Ortom said: “I have no intention whatsoever to contest any elective office in 2027. I have said this clearly, publicly, and repeatedly.

“I expect that a position stated this plainly would not require translation or creative reinterpretation,” he said.

He reiterated his dedication to promoting democratic values, strengthening the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and providing leadership as a statesman rather than seeking elective office.

Ortom also called on the public to disregard the reports, describing them as “a fabrication”.
