The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared that it is not a personality-driven organisation or a special purpose vehicle that can be “used and discarded”.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Osa Director, the party’s national publicity secretary, said the National Executive Committee (NEC), during a meeting in Abuja, reaffirmed the supremacy of the party in all matters relating to governance and decision-making.

According to him, the NEC resolved that “the party is supreme, and programmes, policies, and appointments by governments elected on its platform must be made in consultation with the party.”

Director said members are expected to place the party’s interests above personal ambitions.

He added that all affiliated groups and non-governmental organisations linked to the party must operate within its structure and remain under its supervision.

“All affiliated groups and NGOs shall operate under the guidance and control of the party and must not function in parallel with, or independently of, the party structure,” he said.

He also disclosed that a committee headed by the party’s national legal adviser has been set up to develop a comprehensive code of conduct for party officials and candidates.

The NDC spokesperson further announced the inauguration of a national reconciliation committee tasked with addressing grievances among members.

The move comes after some aspirants accused the party of imposing candidates during its nationwide primary elections.

Director stressed that the NDC is focused on building a lasting institution rather than a political movement centred on individuals.

“The party is being built as an institution, not a personality cult, political movement, or Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to be used and discarded,” he said.

“Members are encouraged to remain committed to the party and contribute to its growth and sustainability for generations to come.”

On financial accountability, the party said it would enforce strict transparency in the management of resources and campaign funds.

Director noted that all candidates must disclose funds raised for their campaigns and account for contributions paid into campaign accounts.

“On financial probity, the party will enforce strict accountability in the management of party resources by all officers, and party funds must be used strictly for party business,” he said.

He added that all campaign donations and funds, including those for presidential and governorship campaigns where applicable, must be paid into designated party accounts.
