25 lives lost in tanker-truck collision in Kwara

Twenty-five individuals perished, and approximately 15 others suffered diverse injuries in a fire catastrophe in Bode Saadu, located in the Moro Local Government Area (LGA) of Kwara State.

The fire incident occurred around 3:18 pm on Tuesday at Peke village along the Oko-Olowo, Bode Saadu Expressway in the Moro Local Government Area when a petrol tanker with registration number JJN 17 XW, a heavy-duty truck, and an 18-seater bus collided.

Hakeem Adekunle, a spokesperson for the state Fire Service, confirmed the incident, stating that the petrol tanker, traveling from Niger state, collided head-on with a heavy-duty truck from Lagos State after using the wrong side of the road.

“The collision ignited a fire that rapidly consumed both vehicles, also affecting an 18-seater bus from Lagos,” he said.

“Expressing deep sorrow, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service emphasized the need for road users to prioritize safe driving practices, issuing a warning to adhere to safety measures consistently.”
