36 Kidnap victims rescued in Kebbi

The Kebbi State Police Command has successfully rescued 36 individuals who were abducted along the Mairairai/Bena road in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, North-West Nigeria.

This was disclosed in a statement by the police spokesman, Nafiu Abubakar.

According to the statement, on 8th December 2024, a group of heavily armed bandits blocked the Mairairai/Bena road and abducted 36 people returning from their farms.

Upon receiving the report, a joint operation comprising the Police, Army, and local vigilantes was swiftly mobilised to the scene. They engaged the bandits in a gunfight, overpowering them and forcing them to flee into the forest with injuries.

All 36 victims were rescued unharmed and have since been reunited with their families.

The Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, commended the courage, resilience, and professionalism displayed by the officers involved in the operation. He urged them to remain steadfast in ensuring Kebbi State does not become a refuge for criminals.

The commissioner also called for stronger collaboration among security agencies to effectively combat banditry and other criminal activities in the region.
