A 51-year-old returnee from the United States, Sunday Abioye, has been found dead in a hotel room in Sagamu, located in the Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State.
According to reports, his lifeless body was discovered on Wednesday in a hotel situated in the GRA area of Sagamu.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement issued from Abeokuta, the state capital.
Odutola revealed that the hotel’s Chief Security Officer, identified as Mr. Oluwole, had reported the discovery of a deceased guest to the police.
Upon receiving the report, a team of detectives was dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they found Abioye’s body already placed in a car outside the hotel, as his family prepared to transport it to the morgue.
The deceased’s brother, Jimoh Godday, who resides in Imota, Lagos State, informed the police that Abioye had returned to Nigeria from the United States on Saturday, November 16, 2024.
Godday further explained that on Monday, he had visited the hotel and knocked on room 109, where his brother was staying. After receiving no response, he requested a spare key from the hotel manager, which led to the discovery of his brother’s lifeless body inside the room.
“Photos were taken, and various drugs and traditional medicines were recovered from the room,” she said
“The centre of the bed was soaked with a liquid like substance. A friend of the deceased, Ogunmonti Ogunwole, confirmed that he accompanied his friend, Sunday to purchase nine different types of medication the previous day due to his complaints of illness.
“The body has since been evacuated to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital Morgue in Sagamu for an autopsy.
“No known cause of death yet, and the case will be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation,” the police PRO concluded
