In August 2024, the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) deported 61 foreign nationals from the country. This action was part of efforts to tackle irregular migration and was facilitated by the new visa policy.
According to the NIS’s monthly report, the new policy allowed for the issuance of 8,352 Visas on Arrival during the same period. The report indicated that the deportations were aimed at managing and curbing irregular migration.
The report noted, “To address irregular migration, the NIS deported 61 foreign nationals while the new Visa Policy enabled the issuance of 8,352 Visas on Arrival.”
This marks a continuation of the NIS’s efforts to regulate foreign presence in the country. From 2020 to 2022, the service had previously deported at least 70 foreign nationals.
