The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has reported that 69 people lost their lives in road accidents across Lagos State in the first quarter of 2026.

The agency also stated that 246 others sustained various degrees of injuries within the same period.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, disclosed this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Lagos.

Bakare-Oki added that the agency cleared over 600 accident scenes during the period and resolved more than 900 infractions involving trucks and other articulated vehicles.

He also noted that LASTMA carried out 4,900 enforcement operations and recorded about 17,942 offences through technology-driven monitoring systems.

According to him, the agency maintains zero tolerance for traffic violations, adding that impounded vehicles are promptly taken before the Lagos State Mobile Court.

He said efforts had been made to improve response time to traffic incidents through better equipment deployment and personnel training.

Bakare-Oki also revealed that LASTMA has planned extensive capacity-building programmes for over 1,000 staff members throughout 2026 to improve service delivery.
