In a celebratory message released through his Press Secretary, Dr. Abdulazeez Arowona, on Thursday in Ilorin, the Emir—who also leads the Kwara Traditional Rulers Council—hailed Obasanjo as a “patriot” and an “elder statesman.”

A Tribute to a Global Leader

The Emir’s tribute highlighted Obasanjo’s extensive impact, stating:

“You are a living legend, a patriot, an elder statesman, and a global citizen with a tremendous record of global peace advocacy,” Sulu-Gambari remarked.

He noted that the former Military Head of State and two-term civilian president is internationally respected for his “exceptional and long-lasting achievements.”

The monarch further recognized Obasanjo’s role in national unity, describing him as a “nation-builder, a peaceful coexistence advocate, who promotes inter-religious and inter-cultural harmony.”

The Emir expressed personal gratitude to “Chief Olusegun Aremu Okikiola Obasanjo” for his consistent support of the Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State. Speaking on behalf of the Kwara Traditional Rulers Council, he joined in the “auspicious occasion” of the anniversary and offered prayers for the former president’s continued health and “absolute comfort on earth.”
