Abbas meets with US Ambassador, seeks stronger ties

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, met with the new U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Tajudeen welcomed Mills and officials from the U.S. Embassy, emphasizing the need for stronger ties and enhanced cooperation between Nigeria and the United States. This was disclosed in a statement by the Speaker’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi.

“I am confident that you are the right person, arriving at the right time, to strengthen the excellent relationship between America and Nigeria. You can count on our full support,” Tajudeen said.

He expressed his pleasure at hosting the “newest Ambassador of the United States of America” and thanked the delegation for visiting to discuss shared interests between both nations.

The Speaker called for “deeper ties, stronger cooperation, and a more mutually beneficial relationship.”

Ambassador Mills, in turn, noted that the purpose of his visit was to discuss priorities of the Speaker and the House, adding, “Nigeria, as Africa’s largest democracy, is of significant interest to the United States.”
