Abducted Taraba council chairman regains freedom

Boyi Manja, the chairman of the caretaker committee for the Takum Local Government Council in Taraba State and was kidnapped on Sunday, has been released.

On Friday, the Taraba State Police Command announced the news and added that Manja had been released the previous evening.

SP Usman Abdulahi, the command’s public relations officer, who confirmed the release of the council chief, claimed that the release was the product of a cooperative effort with sister organisations, including the military.

According to Abdullahi, no ransom was paid.

He claimed that the pressure from the combined team prompted his kidnappers to release him.

The chairman of the Local Government Legislative Council, who was abducted along the Wukari/Takum road last Sunday, could not be reached at the time this report was filed, but Pius Bulus Gauva, the leader of the Local Government Legislative Council, told  journalists that the council was pleased with the chairman’s release.

“All I can tell you is that no telephone calls were made to us by the kidnappers throughout the period they held him hostage. So it will be difficult to know the details of his release now.

“We thank God and the security agencies for their role in ensuring his release. He is back home and has since reunite with his family,” he said.
