The traditional ruler of Anunu Ukwu Ancient Kingdom in Abia State, Eze Paulson Nwankwo, has urged residents to remain calm following the killing of Miss Wendy Achumba, a final-year nursing student whose death has sparked concerns in the community.

The monarch cautioned against any attempt at retaliation, saying such actions could worsen the situation and undermine efforts to secure justice. He noted that security agencies were already making progress in the investigation, with two suspects reportedly in police custody.

“Such revenge may cause more harm,” the monarch said.

Nwankwo described the incident as heartbreaking and called on community leaders and traditional institutions in Obowo, Imo State, to work closely with law enforcement authorities by providing information that could help track down other persons connected to the crime.

He also extended his condolences to the bereaved family, praying for strength and comfort for them as they mourn their daughter.

The deceased was said to have recently completed her midwifery training at the College of Nursing, Umulogho Obowo, before the tragic incident occurred.

Meanwhile, the Imo State Police Command said investigations into the case are ongoing. The command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, explained that officers swiftly responded after receiving reports of the incident.

According to him, the caretaker of the lodge and the victim’s boyfriend were initially questioned but were later cleared after investigators found no evidence linking them to the crime.

“Having seen they were not involved in the matter, we directed the community to comb their area and arrest anybody found with marks of violence,” he said.

Police later apprehended another suspect who allegedly provided information that led investigators to an accomplice.

Okoye disclosed that detectives recovered a blood-stained knife and other items believed to be connected to the killing. The exhibits have been forwarded for forensic examination.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, Audu Garba Bosso, has directed a thorough investigation and assured the public that the findings would be made known once the process is completed.
