Abia State Command says it is committed to fully carrying out the Clearance Operation in line with the aspirations of the Commandant General, Nigeria Security And Civil Defence Corps, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, of waging war against all illegal refinery operators/dealers in Ukwa West LGA of Abia State.
Ayinla Taiye Olowo, the NSCDC’s Abia State Commandant, said his command has maintained the onslaught against economic saboteurs whose main targets are petroleum pipelines and other government Critical National Assets and Infrastructure at all levels.
Speaking after inspection at Ukwa West LGA of Abia State, Olowo said his operatives have through its operation code-named “OPS STING” destroyed many illegal refineries, successfully disconnected the pipes used to syphon petroleum products from Shell and NNPC pipelines and confiscated the equipment of the fleeing suspects in the area.
This, he said was in fulfilment of his earlier promise to constantly brief all on the activities of the Command’s Anti-Vandalism Team in Ukwa West general area.
According to him, the Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, promised to provide logistics to the command “to enhance our operations especially in penetrating the area which is very difficult terrain.
“The breakthrough we have recorded has been made possible following the timely approval and delivery of logistics by the Commandant General.
“Equally, the government and people of Ukwa West Local Government Area have been supportive, thereby helping us to lunch more offensive against vandals and their collaborators.”
Conducting newsmen around some of the destroyed illegal refineries, the Abia NSCDC Boss said, “Our new approach to this important fight is to cut the supply chains by making demand and supply go separate ways.
“The menace of soot and its concomitant health hazards has witnessed great reduction. To a large extent, we are convinced that we are winning the war.”
He assured that upon conclusion of Investigations, necessary actions shall be taken in line with the extant laws.
