Reacting to the incident in a statement signed and released by it’s president, Rasheed Bolarinwa, ACAMB said it was deeply shaken especially for the lives lost. Quoting Mr Elumelu’s statement confirming  the incident, ACAMB said it joined Mr Elumelu in mourning the deceased.

“We were deeply shaken to learn that the inferno claimed the lives of ten (10) individuals: six (6) staff members of United Capital/Heirs Holdings and four (4) senior staff of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). Some of those who unfortunately lost their lives were part of the Heirs Holdings family, a fact personally confirmed by Mr. Elumelu.

“In these moments of grief, words may feel inadequate. As Mr. Elumelu himself noted: “I am shattered by yesterday’s devastating incident at Afriland Towers that took the lives of our dear colleagues. No words can capture the magnitude of this loss… Yesterday was a stark reminder of what truly matters: our irreplaceable people, those who walk through our doors each day and share our mission.” We join him in mourning and in recognising the immeasurable value of the lives lost,” the statement read on part.

While pledging support for the bereaved families and admonishing the brave courage of the first responders who tackled the inferno head-on while it raged, the Association however called on all stakeholders including corporate institutions, government agencies, and society – to recommit to the highest standards of workplace and building safety.

“On behalf of all ACAMB members, we stand with the bereaved families and loved ones, praying for strength to bear this painful loss. Our thoughts are also with the injured, survivors, and first responders who courageously faced the blaze. Their bravery in the face of danger, is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.

“This tragedy calls on all of us – corporate institutions, government agencies, and society – to recommit to the highest standards of workplace and building safety. As a nation, we must ensure that such devastating incidents are minimised through stricter adherence to safety protocols and stronger disaster preparedness measures.

“ACAMB also pledges to stand in solidarity with Mr. Elumelu, United Capital, Heirs Holdings, FIRS, and all those affected, offering any support within our capacity – from mobilizing our professional network to extending advocacy support. In unity, we can help ease the burden of grief and rebuild hope.

May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace. May those injured recover fully. And may all affected by this tragedy find the comfort and strength to carry on.”
