At least nine individuals were confirmed deceased, with seven others sustaining injuries in a collision between a truck and a Mazda bus at Kere Bridge along the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.
Mrs. Florence Okpe, the spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, confirmed the incident to journalists in Abeokuta on Tuesday.
She explained that the incident, which happened at 8:00 a.m., resulted from speeding and route violations, leading to a head-on collision between the truck, which lacked a registration number, and the bus, bearing the mark SMK 808 YD.
Mrs. Okpe mentioned that a total of 17 individuals were involved, including seven men, nine women, and one female child.
“Unfortunately, nine persons were recorded dead from the crash, comprising five men and four women,” she said.
The FRSC spokesperson mentioned that the injured individuals had been transported to the General Hospital in Ijaye, Abeokuta, while the deceased were deposited at the same hospital.
She also indicated that the Sector Commander, Anthony Uga, emphasized the risks associated with route violations and speeding, urging motorists to strictly observe traffic rules and regulations.
