The Federal Capital Territory chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed strong backing for the Senator David Mark-led National Working Committee (NWC), distancing itself from recent comments by some state chairmen who opposed the leadership.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the party’s FCT Publicity Secretary, Nwigbo Samuel, the chapter urged members to embrace unity and resolve internal disagreements through established party mechanisms rather than through litigation.
“The FCT chapter of ADC stands solidly behind the Senator David Mark-led NWC and calls on others to do the same in the interest of peace and collective progress.
“A house divided against itself, they say, will never stand. We advise that all aggrieved members within the party should, instead of resorting to unnecessary court cases that only create cracks for opposition to sneak in and destabilise, explore all the dispute resolution mechanisms available in the party and seek redress,” the statement read.
The chapter further called on party leaders to step in and restore harmony within the ranks.
“Lasting peace and unity are all we pray for to prevail within our party. Let’s activate the spirit of sportsmanship and ensure no one is left behind.
“Surely, ADC will succeed and unseat this devilish government that has brought our country to ruin,” it added.
The statement comes amid internal tensions within the ADC, where rival factions are contesting control of the party.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had recently withdrawn recognition of the Mark-led leadership following a court order directing it to maintain the status quo pending the resolution of a leadership dispute.
INEC also removed Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from its portal and stated it would not recognise Nafiu Bala, who is seeking judicial declaration as national chairman.
The crisis has also triggered protests in Abuja under the banner #OccupyINEC, with party members and political figures demonstrating against what they described as interference in internal party affairs.
The FCT chapter, however, stressed the need for unity and collective focus ahead of future elections, urging members to prioritise the party’s overall success.
“Remember, our collective interest far outweighs our individual quests. If ADC succeeds, we all succeed,” the statement concluded.
