Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has secured victory in the African Democratic Congress presidential primary held in Bayelsa State, outperforming former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.

The outcome was announced in a statement posted by the ADC on X on Tuesday, confirming Amaechi’s strong showing in the state contest.

“Results of the exercise showed that Amaechi secured a total of 44,404 votes to clinch victory in the state’s presidential primary,” the statement said.

According to the results released by the party, Atiku finished behind Amaechi with “6,570 votes, while Hayatu-Deen polled 939 votes”.

The Bayelsa exercise forms part of the ADC’s nationwide presidential primary process, through which delegates are selecting the party’s flagbearer for the 2027 general election.

While the final national tally is still being awaited, preliminary results from across the country indicate that Atiku remains ahead in the overall race, having recorded victories in several states as voting continues.
