Address flooding, Lagos Assembly members tell Gov Sanwo-Olu

The governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has been urged by the state’s House of Assembly to address flooding in the state.

The House also approved the dismissal of Mr. Wale Mogaji, the head of the House Service Commission, and confirmed Olalekan Onafeko as the official Clerk of the House.

Eromosele Ebhomele, the Speaker of the House’s chief press secretary, revealed this in a statement on Thursday.

The statement read, “During the plenary, the House raised concerns over the recent boat mishap that led to the death of about 15 people on June 8 as well as the floods recorded in some parts of the state recently.

“The lawmakers further said there was the need by the governor of the state, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to work towards a solution to the flooding incidents.

“In a unanimous decision on Thursday, the Lagos State House of Assembly voted for the sack of the chairman of the State House of Assembly Commission, Mr Wale Mogaji.

“Mogaji’s sack was approved after a voice vote by members of the House at plenary. The House also confirmed Olalekan Onafeko as the substantive Clerk of the House while it elevated three other senior staff to the position of Deputy Clerks. Onafeko was appointed Acting Clerk in 2020.”

Meanwhile, the lawmakers, led by the Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, also paid a condolence visit to the family of the late former Speaker, Abayomi Kinyomi, with the deceased’s wife, Mrs Oluyinka Abeni.

Obasa said the former Speaker played an important role in the development of Lagos.

“Even after leaving the House, he continued to assist with his wisdom. We consider him one of us because once a lawmaker, always a lawmaker. To us, it is the celebration of a life well-lived,” he said.
