“Adeleke is not Fubara,” Dele Momodu tackles Wike over brags of ability to win Osun if Tinubu wanted it

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has criticised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, following his claim that he could have helped the All Progressives Congress (APC) win the Osun State governorship election if President Bola Tinubu had allowed him.

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke defeated the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and ADC flagbearer Najeem Salaam in the closely contested August 15 election.

Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, secured 511,067 votes to defeat Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes. Salaam finished third with 17,180 votes.

The incumbent governor won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in the remaining 11.

Speaking on Tuesday during an inspection of flood-prone areas in Maitama, Abuja, Wike said he could have delivered Osun State to the APC had President Tinubu wanted the party to win the election “at all costs”.

The minister, who remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), also alleged that Tinubu deliberately allowed the election to take place without federal government interference.

Reacting to Wike’s remarks in a brief post on Tuesday, Momodu challenged the minister’s assertion and urged him not to place himself on the same level as God.

Momodu also drew a distinction between Adeleke and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who has been widely regarded as Wike’s political ally and protégé.

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, and Fubara were previously involved in a prolonged political dispute over control of the state. The disagreement eventually affected Fubara’s chances of securing the PDP’s ticket for a second term.

“OSUN people would have demystified you mercilessly. Adeleke is not Fubara!! My kobo advice, stop equating yourself to GOD,” Momodu wrote.
