The Osun State Police Command has issued a warning against actions that could disturb public order in advance of the Supreme Court’s decision on the July 16, 2022, Osun governorship case today.

On a tour of the city of Osogbo, the state capital, on Tuesday, our correspondent saw an abnormally high concentration of security officers in key areas.

In the Osogbo city, security officers were seen at the Old Garage, Olaiya Junction, Oke Fia and Alekuwodo neighbourhood, and Osogbo-Ikirun route.

Along strategic routes in the state capital, patrol vehicles of members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were also spotted.

The Osun command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, said security measures have been put in place to protect lives and property before and after the Apex Court has issued its ruling on the governorship matter. She stated this while speaking on the police’s preparation to maintain peace.

Opalola said the operatives had been thoroughly briefed and would not accept any act that can infringe on other people’s rights while issuing a warning against disorderly behaviour.

She said, “We have put in place security measures to ensure the safety of lives and property. We won’t tolerate any act capable of causing disruption of peace. We have deployed to strategic locations across the state and we urge people to go about their normal business without any fear. People should respect other people’s rights.”

In a same line, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps’ Osun Command has claimed that it worked with other organisations to keep peace both before and after the Supreme Court’s ruling on the Osun governorship case.

Additionally, it stated that the required security measures have been put in place to deal forcefully with anyone who disturbs the calm.

According to a statement from the command’s spokesperson, Kehinde Adeleke, Sunday Agboola, the head of the NSCDC in the state, urged communities to work with the security personnel to maintain peace.

The All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State expressed optimism that their candidates would win when the Supreme Court rendered its decision on Tuesday about the election of July 16, 2022.
