Ademola Adeyemi-Bero has been appointed as Nigeria’s Governor to the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and as the Chairman of the OPEC Board of Governors for 2025.
The appointment was confirmed during the 189th meeting of the OPEC Conference, according to Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil).
In a statement issued by his media aide, Nneamaka Okafor, the minister described Adeyemi-Bero’s elevation as a recognition of Nigeria’s active contributions to the global oil industry.
Lokpobiri highlighted that this appointment offers Nigeria a key platform to advocate for balanced energy policies that serve the interests of oil producers, consumers, and the global economy alike.
Before being named Chairman of the OPEC Board of Governors, Adeyemi-Bero had been confirmed as Nigeria’s OPEC Governor for 2025.
The minister also expressed deep appreciation for Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, the outgoing Nigerian OPEC Governor, commending his outstanding service. Lokpobiri acknowledged Aduda’s crucial role in advancing Nigeria’s interests within OPEC and maintaining the country’s strong presence in global energy dialogues.
In addition, OPEC appointed Adeeb Al-Aama, Saudi Arabia’s Governor for OPEC, as the Alternate Chairman of the Board of Governors for 2025.
The OPEC Conference convened representatives from member countries to address significant matters, including reports from the Secretary-General and the Economic Commission Board (ECB), and to discuss critical organisational issues.
The Conference also extended the tenure of His Excellency Haitham Al Ghais as OPEC Secretary-General for another three years, effective 1 August 2025. Member nations lauded his exceptional leadership and the Secretariat’s steadfast dedication to OPEC’s objectives.
