The Kebbi State Government has defended Governor Nasir Idris’ endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for a second term, saying the state’s relationship with the Federal Government has delivered tangible benefits to its people.
The governor’s Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Abdullahi Idris, stated this in a statement issued on Monday, arguing that the governor was justified in canvassing support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In the statement titled “In Defence of Governor Idris’ Support for President Tinubu,” the aide, popularly known as Sadaukin Zuru, said Kebbi’s decision to remain aligned with the ruling All Progressives Congress had translated into political and developmental gains.
He noted that Governor Idris emerged through a democratic process in 2023, saying the electorate entrusted him with leadership under the APC because of his track record and commitment to public service.
“Multi-party democracy gives Nigerians the sovereign right to choose their party and direction. In 2023, the people of Kebbi State made that choice decisively by electing Comrade Governor Nasir Idris under the All Progressives Congress (APC),” he said.
The aide also credited President Tinubu with restoring Kebbi’s influence in federal appointments by allowing the governor to nominate qualified indigenes for positions on boards and commissions.
“After years of hijacking the state’s share of membership of federal boards and commissions, President Tinubu has reversed the situation and authorised Comrade Nasir Idris to recommend credible, experienced and selfless Kebbi indigenes for appointment,” he said.
According to him, the President has equally addressed concerns raised by the governor over the exclusion of deserving Kebbi indigenes from federal appointments.
Sadaukin Zuru further said the partnership between the state and the Federal Government had strengthened security efforts through support for anti-banditry operations and assistance to security agencies.
He added that federal agricultural programmes had complemented the state government’s interventions by providing additional support to farmers.
“These gains have proved the fact that Kebbi benefits most when it stands firmly with the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the centre,” he stated.
While defending the governor’s political stance, the aide maintained that residents remained free to make their own electoral decisions.
“The governor also affirms that every Nigerian retains the constitutional right to vote according to conscience and the track record of the candidate of his or her choice,” he said.
He urged APC supporters across Kebbi State to begin mobilising for the next general election, insisting that sustaining the relationship with the Federal Government would benefit the state.
“As we approach 2027, Governor Nasir Idris is calling on all APC members and lovers of progress in Kebbi to mobilise massively for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election. The centre is listening to Kebbi, and we must keep that door open,” he added.
