The Eyenkorin-Peke-Okolowo area in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, is being searched for and cleared of any criminal gangs as part of a combined operation by the Nigerian Air Force’s 303 Medium Airlift Group and other sister security agencies.

For optimum effect, the operation, code-named “Exercise Apejopo Idi” (meaning “gathering of the eagles”), will take place from this Saturday through the end of December.

“Exercise Apejopo Idi, which is planned for December 16 to 31, 2022, aims at utilising NAF ground and air assets to comb the bushes and vulnerable communities within the Eyenkorin-Peke-Okolowo area.”

A statement by the Commander of the 303 Medium Airlift Group, Air Commodore Ibrahim-Garba Jibia, stated, “The operation will also involve 22 Brigade, the Department of State Service, police, local vigilante and hunter groups to get rid of the bad eggs and any possible kidnappers’ den along that area.”

There will be a significant troop movement during the operation. It is part of the joint military-state government operation to ensure security in the overall Eyenkorin-Peke-Okolowo area.

All of the peaceful locals were urged by Gibia to keep going about their daily business and not to be afraid.
