Five personnel of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) tragically lost their lives in a road accident in Plateau State, the service confirmed on Tuesday.
NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, announced the incident in a statement, revealing that the accident occurred along the Jos-Akwanga Express Road near Hawan Kibo.
He explained that the personnel were en route to Abuja for a sporting event when their vehicle collided with an oncoming truck.
“The Nigerian Air Force deeply regrets to announce the loss of five of our brave personnel who were involved in a tragic road accident on 22 October 2024,” the statement read. “The unfortunate incident took place around Hawan Kibo on the Jos-Akwanga Express Road.”
Akinboyewa assured that the NAF is committed to supporting the families of the deceased and urged the public to respect their privacy during this time of mourning.
“Statutory administrative protocols have been activated to provide comfort and support to the bereaved families,” he added. “We appeal to the public to respect the privacy of the victims’ families and refrain from sharing unverified information. May their souls rest in perfect peace.”
