The Nigerian Air Force has denied allegations of bombing the Mbosi community in Ihiala Local Council of Anambra State.
Residents of the community had alleged that a cannon from a military helicopter exploded in a compound within the area, reportedly killing three children and leaving one person hospitalised. It was presumed that the aircraft belonged to the military.
In response, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, spokesperson for the Nigerian Air Force, stated that the military did not carry out any operation in the area.
Additionally, a statement by the President General of the community, Azuka Innocent Okolie, on social media, dismissed claims of military involvement.
“Fellow citizens of Mbosi. It is with a heavy heart that I address you today, especially in light of the recent tragic loss of the lives of three of our beloved children in the explosion at Agwunnaga Mbosi,” he said.
Okolie clarified that the military operates under strict command and control, requiring higher authority approval for all operations.
“The military didn’t fire even one bullet that day. Unfortunately, the truth is that the Eastern Security Network (ESN) is responsible for the explosion. This is not an isolated incident, as they have also carried out similar attacks in other areas, including Isseke,” he said.
He further alleged that the ESN had planted Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) within the community, particularly along track roads and near residential areas.
Okolie urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to the authorities.
“Let us work together to protect our community and prevent further harm. Stay safe, and may God bless Ndi Mbosi,” he concluded.
