Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has announced that transition committees will be formed shortly for the state’s 18 Local Government Areas and 33 Local Council Development Areas in preparation for the upcoming local government elections.

According to a statement released on Monday by Ebenezer Adeniyan, the chief press secretary to the governor, Aiyedatiwa made this information public at the Governor’s Office in Akure during a meeting with erstwhile members of the Caretaker Committees of the LGAs and LCDAs.

According to him, the governor also confirmed that there are no intentions for his administration to eliminate the Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) that were recently established in the state.

The preservation of the LCDAs is considered a legacy of the late former governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, as stated by the governor.

He informed the 255 former appointees that their inauguration and assumption of office had been halted due to the opposition party’s court action and consequent injunction.

The governor stated that increased efforts were being made to resolve the court case through a court-approved political solution.

He further stated that transition committees will be established and all errors in the composition of the list of appointees will be rectified once the case is ultimately withdrawn from the court.

Aiyedatiwa urged the former appointees in their respective local government areas to exhibit greater party loyalty.

“It is important for us to come together as one big family for the progress of the APC and the development of our state,” he said, stressing that there is no division in the party’s leadership.

The state APC Chairman, Ade Adetimehin, echoed the governor’s words of unity in the party, commending the governor for the interface with the party members.

On behalf of the former appointees, Olaniyi Gbenga and Mrs. Funke Kumuyi expressed gratitude to the governor for the meeting and vowed their allegiance and assistance to his administration.
