The Bishop of Owo Anglican Diocese in Ondo State, Rt. Rev Stephen Fagbemi, has characterized the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu as a visionary leader deeply devoted to matters of faith.
Fagbemi made these remarks during an evening Service of Songs held to honor the late Akeredolu as part of the funeral proceedings.
The service occurred at St. Andrew’s Cathedral Church on Imola Street in Owo and was graced by dignitaries from various parts of the country.
According to him ” the late Akeredolu was not only a governor but was also a visionary leader who was passionate about the things of God.
He added that Akeredolu” has left a void that will be difficult to fill in the Diocese, the state, and the nation at large.
The clergyman offered a prayer to grant the family the strength to cope with their loss. Most Reverend Simeon Borokini, the Anglican Bishop of Akure Diocese and Archbishop of Ondo Ecclesiastical Province, delivered a brief exhortation, acknowledging Akeredolu’s dedicated service to the people of the state.
Borokini encouraged everyone to consistently pursue goodness in their respective roles. Prof. Wole Akeredolu, the late governor’s younger brother, expressed gratitude on behalf of the family, thanking all for their support and affection toward the deceased Akeredolu.
He highlighted that the numerous testimonies and tributes regarding Akeredolu have brought solace to their hearts, affirming that their Patriarch lived a life of significance and positively impacted society.
The Service of Songs was graced by the presence of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Deputy Governor Mr. Adelami Olayide, Deputy Governor of Kogi State Salifu Joel Oyibo, Minister of State for Youth Development Olawande Ayodele, Justice of the Supreme Court Justice Hellen Ogunwumiju, as well as other justices of the Court of Appeal. Also in attendance were Engr. Ade Adetimehin, Chairman of the APC in the state; Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, Speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly; Chief Judge Justice Olusegun Odusola; Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire, along with other senators, and the former PDP governorship candidate in the state Mr. Eyitayo Jegede SAN.
Additionally, present were Erelu Bisi Fayemi, the wife of the former Governor of Ekiti State; former Minister Prince Ademola Adegoroye; members of the House of Representatives; APC governorship hopeful Wale Akinterinwa; as well as the leadership and members of the Christian Association of Nigeria, among others.
