Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has maintained that education is one of his administration’s top objectives and that he will not relent in ensuring that the sector receives the greatest possible attention.

He said that since the start of his government, no fewer than 600 schools had been refurbished to improve the learning standards of students in the Sunshine State.

This was expressed by Akeredolu during the diamond jubilee celebration of Akoko Anglican Grammar School in Arigidi-Akoko, Akoko North-West Local Government Area of Ondo State. The event was organized by the school’s old students’ group.

“This school has produced many great men,” remarked the governor, “and this ceremony is meant to highlight a significant milestone.”

“We have renovated over 600 schools.I don’t believe in mega schools, though I am not condemning it, at least the one in Owo is useful for the polytechnic. I believe in the renovation of schools. We have touched over 600 schools in Ondo State

“We are committed to tackling infrastructural deficit in Ondo State as we have done much, but funding is a big problem but we will continue to do our best.”

Akeredolu thanked the school’s old pupils for seeing fit to renovate some outdated classrooms, saying the 60th anniversary had marked a new dawn.

In his remarks, Rauf Aregbesola, an old student of the school and Minister of Interior, praised the Ondo State Government for rehabilitating the school’s dormant infrastructure. He also described Akeredolu as a dedicated public servant.

The former governor of Osun State stated that, other from the early intervention of the state government, the old pupils were exclusively responsible for the correction of structural issues in the institution. He invited other former students to give back by helping to improve their alma institution.

Adewole Saba, National President of the Old Students Association, echoed Aregbesola’s gestures by revealing that the minister had restored most of the school buildings on his own.

“One of us rose to become a minister in the country and some rose to become permanent secretaries in the federal and state governments. I thank God for all these achievements,” he applauded.
